Fireworks are supposed to light up the night sky on the Fourth of July. They’re not supposed to come flying into the front lawn of the Happy Haven Retirement Home and strike one of the residents in his keister.
But that’s just what happens to gallant Lester Mills, new resident, and charming gentleman, who has risen to offer his seat to fellow resident and amateur sleuth Essie Cobb, when the rocket’s red glare smashes into both of them.
As the unconscious Lester is hailed a hero for saving Essie and hauled off to the local hospital, Essie is left to wonder how and why the firecracker landed so precisely on both of them.
Was it really an accident? Did a rocket from the nearby city fireworks’ display go awry? Or is there something more sinister behind the explosion?
Essie is determined to find out––after all, what else is Reardon’s most prolific senior citizen/detective to do when she’s been FIRECRACKERED?
Patricia Rockwell's fifth book in her Essie Cobb senior sleuth mystery series. A light, humorous cozy mystery!

Currently reading this, after having so enjoyed Essie’s previous adventure. Being in my 70s now, it’s fun to read about clever “senior sleuths” taking an interest in life around them and utilizing their life experiences and resourcefulness to “solve the case”.Product details

Firecrackered An Essie Cobb Senior Sleuth Mystery edition by Patricia Rockwell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really like the storyline in this series. Four elderly women who live in a retirement home ,are the best of friends work together to solve crimes. The problem I really had was with one of the characters named Essie. She was very bossy and wanted to have her way alot. Sometimes I got the feeling that she was a mean woman...otherwise as I said, the storyline and the setting in the book was good.
This book was interesting and fun to read. It featured an unlikely set of sleuths (four elderly ladies who live in a retirement home). I highly recommend it to other cozy mystery readers.
Ms. Rockwell captures today’s retirement center vibe with her Essie series. This series shows how vibrant older adults really are.
I am enjoying this well written series. I am intrigued by these four senior ladies' ability to solve mysteries that even the police cannot figure out. Even though two of the ladies are wheelchair bound and one is mute, they always find a way to crack the case. They may be old but they are not senile or bored. There is never a dull moment with Essie and company.
So happy that another Essie Cobb mystery finally came out. I love these mysteries. I liked that Essie's grandson played a greater role in this one. Patricia did a great job of bringing the "outside world in" to the nursing home. This is a great series! I hope we don't have to wait so long for Essie's next adventure!
Hilarious and great read.
I love mysteries, but hate the fact that in most of them someone has to die. These stories are so sweet and keep ya rooting for Essie. keep writing them pleae!!!!
